As stay at home Moms or Dads, most of us have used the internet to find information about a topic we are interested in. And many of us have used it to purchase something. But no matter what you have done on the internet, obviously you have used it since you are reading this blog.
That’s the big advantage of marketing on the internet, people from all over the world use the internet and use it every day. That is millions of people that are searching the internet just like you are for information and products.
The hardest step to getting started with your own internet business is just that – GETTING STARTED!
Even though more and more people are looking to do something else in their life, most don’t ever go through with it. They procrastinate, make excuses and come up with every reason they can think of not to make the change.
Change is hard, and people are afraid of change even when they are unhappy with their current situation. The desire for something new is outweighed by the fear of the unknown. It's scary taking a risk and stepping into a situation where you are not comfortable or don't know everything.
Internet marketing is one way to make a change without taking a big risk. There is little to no money required to get started and you can do it in your spare time so you can work around your life you already have. Working from home allows you to be there for the kids. The internet is always open and doesn't mind waiting if you have to run off and solve the next big child crisis. (like whats for lunch or where's my gameboy!)
But the hard part about internet marketing is the fact that there are 6 things you must do before you can really start to make any money.
1. Research a topic or product – you have to find something that people want to buy whether it is digital (like an eBook) or an actual physical product.
2. Create the product – Now you have to sit down and create what you decided to sell on the internet.
3. Create a sales letter – people need to know the product exists and you are providing them a place to get it.
4. Create a Website – It’s like your storefront on the Web. Here is where the people can read about and purchase your product. Make sure there is a shopping cart so you can get paid.
5. Install and Maintain the website – Things don’t just magically happen and then poof you have a website for people to see. You have to get it hosted and then you need to keep it up to date.
6. Get Traffic – Once you have everything up and ready to go, you need people to visit your website. The best product on the best site won’t do any good if no one visits. This is truly where internet marketing comes in.

Affiliate Marketing is the simplest way for the average person to get started in an internet business. Someone else does Steps 1-5 and all you have to do is Step 6; Refer customers to a webpage to purchase a product. This saves you a lot of time and effort and lets you get you feet wet with an internet business to see if this is something you really want to do. As you learn and grow, you might decide that you want to do steps 1-5 and create your own products and business but learning step 6 first will only enhance your abilities to do the first 5 steps. So affiliate marketing is a win-win situation.
There are literally thousands of products out there. Just find a product that interests you and would be something you would use. If you are going to refer people you want to be able to really give them an honest opinion about the company or the product you are promoting. Try the product yourself and then when you recommend it to others and direct them to buy it you can really give them some great reasons why it works so well.
Not sure how to promote the product –
There are lots of ways. You just need to find what works for you. Blogging, writing articles, purchasing ads, using social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Squidoo, and getting involved with forums are just a few ways you can get your product known.
The best policy is to be honest, don’t make false claims, be a real person who people will like and trust and they will value your opinion and suggestion.
And now the best part about Affiliate Marketing; once someone makes a purchase, you get paid. There is no worry about accepting credit cards, shipping, following up, or maintaining the website. Your only job is to refer people and if they make the purchase you make some money.
How easy is that?
Now I am not saying that it doesn’t take work. But it is a way to get started making money and do it without a lot of startup cost. It just takes some time and effort to learn about internet marketing.
It’s one way to get your feet wet and get started down your path to that change you always dreamt about.
